Please note: Only certain symptoms are appropriate for virtual care consultations, and some conditions may indicate a need for an in-person exam. If this is the case, a General Physician representative will assist you in scheduling an appointment at one of our offices.

What we treat by video visit

Symptoms and conditions that our women’s health providers commonly provide virtual care for include:

  • Contraception (birth control) counseling and management
  • Contraception (birth control) refill requests
  • Endometriosis management
  • Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) consultations and follow-up
  • Irregular periods, period pain or heavy bleeding
  • Lab and imaging result review
  • Medication management
  • New pregnancy questions (Dating, viability, etc.)
  • Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) management
  • Pre-procedure consulting (Such as IUD implantation, colposcopy)
  • Sexual health questions and concerns
  • Sexually transmitted infection (STI) consultations and risk assessment
  • Test result (including Pap smear) review
  • Urinary symptoms/suspected urinary tract infection (UTI)
  • Vaginal discharge
  • Vaginal infections

Virtual obstetric (prenatal and postpartum) care

When is virtual care available?

Available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

How do I schedule a virtual appointment?

  1. Select a timeslot for your virtual appointment and fill out the required information to schedule your visit.
  2. A General Physician representative will contact you via phone to confirm your timeslot and to collect additional information.
  3. Follow the instructions and links provided via text/email to connect to your virtual visit.

What is not treated by virtual visit?

Please note that while some conditions can be successfully managed via virtual care, they may require a physical exam to officially diagnose or to determine a care plan.

  • Abnormal uterine bleeding (Moderate-severe)
  • New pregnancy questions (Dating, viability, etc.)
  • Pelvic pain
  • Urinary symptoms/suspected urinary tract infection (UTI)
  • Vaginal discharge

Other conditions may not be appropriate for a virtual visit and will require an in-person evaluation at one of our women’s health offices across Western New York. These include:

  • Acute abdominal or pelvic pain (Severe)
  • Annual physical exams
  • Fetal distress or urgent pregnancy complications
  • Heavy bleeding
  • Procedures (Including Pap smears, IUD insertions/removal, biopsies)
  • Suspected ectopic pregnancy

What kind of technology do I need?

All you need is a device that connects to the internet with the ability to send and receive video! The process works best with a strong internet connection.

How long is the wait time to meet with a provider?

Using our flexible online scheduling service, you choose the time that works for you!

Is this process secure?

We take patient privacy very seriously and use encrypted channels to conduct the telemedicine visit.

What insurance carriers are accepted?

General Physician accepts most major insurance plans available in Western New York. For a full list of the most common insurance plans we accept, please visit the women’s health page on our website.
