Endocrinology

What is Endocrinology?

Endocrinology is the study of glands in the human body that secrete hormones. Hormones are essential for our every-day survival. They influence our brain function, heart rate, sugar regulation, body temperature, growth, sexual development, and more.

At General Physician, PC, we treat diseases related to hormone imbalances or abnormalities. A hormone is a chemical messenger that is released from an endocrine gland and travels through the bloodstream to a distant organ to exert a specific function. Hormones influence or control a wide range of physiological activities, such as growth, development, puberty, brain function, heart rate, sleep, sugar regulation, metabolism, muscle tone, hair growth, etc.

Problems with hormones and the way they work may contribute to the following disorders: diabetes, thyroid conditions, pituitary conditions, polycystic ovarian syndrome, adrenal disorders, osteoporosis, and obesity.
